On October 15, 2026, Du Kai, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer (EVP & CCO) of Gan & Lee Pharmaceuticals ("Gan & Lee," stock code: 603087.SH), alongside the company's international business team, held a meeting with Türkiye's Deputy Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Şuayıp Birinci, and other officials in Ankara. The talks centered on cooperation on innovative medicines, reliable long-term insulin supply, and the development of local manufacturing capabilities. The meeting aimed to advance Gan & Lee's long-term strategic cooperation in Türkiye, expand access to therapies for metabolic diseases, and bolster supply security.
According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Türkiye has substantial demand for diabetes medicines. In 2024, approximately 9.6 million adults aged 20–79 in Türkiye were living with diabetes, representing an age-standardized prevalence of 16.5%. Both figures were the highest in the IDF European Region.1 According to World Obesity data, the prevalence of overweight and obesity among adults in Türkiye in 2025 stood at 38.4% and 21.4%, respectively.2 By 2030, the combined number of adults living with overweight or obesity is projected to reach approximately 47.44 million.3 The large population living with diabetes, alongside the considerable burden of overweight and obesity, underscores the need for chronic disease management and reliable, long-term access to medications. Ensuring a continuous insulin supply and developing local manufacturing capabilities are therefore important steps toward improving treatment access.
During the meeting, the Gan & Lee delegation presented the company's pipeline, global operations, and manufacturing capabilities. The presentation highlighted preparations for commercialization following EU approvals of its insulin products, recent progress in insulin partnerships and product registrations in Türkiye, and the company's production capacity. It also demonstrated Gan & Lee's large-scale, standardized manufacturing systems and its ability to provide a consistent supply of high-quality insulin to global markets.
Gan & Lee places great importance on the Turkish market and closely monitors local diabetes care needs and healthcare system development. The company secured approval for its insulin glargine injection in Türkiye in 2016. Committed to long-term cooperation, Gan & Lee has actively supported the development of local insulin manufacturing capabilities and has completed technology transfer under its partnership for local insulin glargine production. During the meeting, the delegation reaffirmed its commitment to introducing additional pipeline candidates and innovative medicines to Türkiye and further deepening cooperation to benefit local patients.
Deputy Minister of Health Assoc. Prof. Şuayıp Birinci and the participating officials expressed strong interest in and appreciation for Gan & Lee's insulin development pipeline, product quality, preparations for EU commercialization, and global supply capabilities. Both sides held detailed discussions on cooperation in new medicines and pharmaceutical supply security, laying the groundwork for further project coordination and greater mutual trust between the company and the ministry.
The year 2026 marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Türkiye. This meeting further strengthened communication and mutual trust between Gan & Lee and Türkiye's Ministry of Health, supporting coordinated efforts to ensure a stable supply of medicines and deepen industry cooperation. Through high-quality biologics, Gan & Lee aims to expand treatment access, better meet patients' long-term medication needs, and contribute to global public health.
